The bill that sets rules for the use of artificial intelligence in Brazil, PL 2338/2023, was approved by the Senate on December 10, 2024, and has been in the Chamber of Deputies since then.
- In the Chamber, the text sits in a special committee on artificial intelligence, created in April 2025, with Deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB) as rapporteur.
- The bill’s record says it is awaiting the rapporteur’s report. No vote has been scheduled.
- The latest moves, in October 2026, attached other AI bills to the group processed with it.
Until the law passes, the existing rules still apply: anyone using AI with personal data answers to the LGPD, Brazil’s data protection law, and contracts, consumer law and sector rules apply as before. What the bill would add is a layer specific to AI systems, with risk-based classification and transparency duties.
